Saying No Is a Product Skill

The most important product decisions are the ones you refuse to make. Every yes is a calendar line, a headcount, and a maintenance burden you cannot unwind without pain. The roadmap that impresses executives is often the one that looks busy; the one that ships great product is the one that stayed narrow. Great PMs earn their reputation for what they kept off the roadmap, not for how long the list became. If you cannot say no, you are not prioritizing—you are collecting requests. Practice the sentence until it feels boring: not now, not us, not this way.
